Central Ward

Central Ward is an inner city ward comprising the suburbs of Spring Hill, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, the Central Business District , Herston, Wilston and parts of Teneriffe, Windsor, Kelvin Grove, Bowen Hills, Newmarket.

It contains notable landmarks such as the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, New Farm Park, Ballymore,City Hall, the Queen Street and Fortitude Valley Malls, the Powerhouse Centre for the Arts, Kelvin Grove Urban Village, Royal Brisbane Hospital, City Farm, Downey Park sportsfields,Windsor Town Hall, several nightclub districts, and countless restaurants and cafes.

Urban renewal in Teneriffe and a rise in residential development in the city centre have seen Central Ward's population climb in recent years. It is now one of the most populous wards in the city with over 26,000 enrolled voters at the 2004 Council election.

Central Ward is also one of the youngest wards in the city - 57% of voters in Central Ward are under the age of 40.
